Gov. Mbah Inaugurates 100 CNG Buses in Enugu, Promises 20,000 Jobs

Enugu: Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has rolled out 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, stating that the new transport system will create no fewer than 20,000 jobs and boost the economy of the state and country. Mbah unveiled this initiative in Enugu while inaugurating the New Enugu Transport Management System, five modern bus terminals at Holy Ghost, Gariki, Abakpa, and Nsukka, in addition to the CNG buses.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor stated that the projects inaugurated would help spur the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of Enugu State and the country to grow to $30 billion and $1 trillion respectively within the next six years. The governor emphasized that the projects are part of his promise to ensure world-class infrastructure, which will uplift both the economy and the living standards of the people.

Gov. Mbah highlighted that the projects will provide cheaper, accessible, and seamless transportation options as additional infrastructure to support the new system is already in place. He credited President Bola Tinubu for his vision and decision to remove the fuel subsidy, which facilitated the transition to a modern transport system.

The governor noted plans to roll out 2,000 hybrid vehicles to complement the air-conditioned and disability-friendly CNG buses. These buses will service routes to schools and higher institutions, aiming to reduce household transport expenses by over 40%.

Gov. Mbah also mentioned ongoing efforts to remodel bus stops within Enugu, rebuild roads, and implement a modern e-ticketing process to prevent leakages and manipulations. He highlighted the recent launch of Enugu Air and ongoing plans for rail services and waterways transport.

Earlier, Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transport, remarked that the newly inaugurated terminals could serve over 10 million commuters annually, offering comfort with facilities such as air-conditioned halls, eateries, and solar-powered security systems.

In his welcome address, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, Chairman of Enugu North Council Area, expressed gratitude for the developmental efforts, including the new terminals and other initiatives aimed at enhancing security and infrastructure in the region.
