The Nigerian government has cleared the air on the detention of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki and the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
Addressing State House Correspondents on Tuesday, Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu said Dasuku still has questions to answer while El-Zakzaky is being kept for his own safety.
There are more cases that are being investigated against Mr Dasuki ,so if you set him free on the basis of the first set of cases, then what of the next set? All over the world there are matters of public safety, which outweigh personal safety and I think the Attorney General, Abubakkar Malami has made his point clear against individual interests.
On the issue of El-Zakzaky, the sense we have is that he is being kept, more for his own safety than for offences he has committed. If you set him free today, what do you think is going to be the reaction out there? He is not in a prison type of detention, he is in the company of hiss wife and children, voluntarily, he said.
Shehu explained that the rights of the two have not being infringed but government was only following the advice of its security agencies.
On claims of a decline in support for the President, Garba Shehu said ordinary Nigerians are the pillar of the Buhari administration, therefore, he is still popular among them If Buhari stands for an election today, he will win, he said.
The Senior Special Adviser urged Nigerians to be patient with the government as the process for appointments into Boards of government agencies was going on smoothly.
On the ease of doing business and job creation, his counterpart in the office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande said: Real jobs are being created in the private sector; millions of that and I assure you we will clearly get out of recession, he stated.
