Abatete (Idemili South LGA)-Gov. Willie Obiano has commended the quality of work so far accomplished on the Agbaja – Abatete -Oraukwu/Alor junction road.
Addressing the people of the area, who came out to welcome him after inspecting the 3km road, Gov. Obiano praised the quality of drainage and asphalting works.
The Governor pleaded with the people to help to safeguard the road after construction by disilting the drainages, while stopping the burning of tyres on the road; this reduced the lifespan of roads.
“Avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse on drainage channels because water will overflow and it will spoil this beautiful road.’’
Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, an Engineer, said the 3km road being constructed by Government was awarded to Beez Global Construction Ltd., in 2017.
Ifejiofor said earth work and drainage were 100 per cent completed and would remain only 600 metres to cover the entire road with asphalt.
He said that with the assurance of the contractor, the entire length would be completed in two weeks and would be ready for inauguration.
An All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) stakeholder and former House of Representative Member, Dr Ifeanyi Ibezi observed that when completed, it would offer a big relief because high traffic jams at Eke Agu Abatete, especially during festive periods.
