Awka-Anambra State Government, has expressed satisfaction at the pace of work at the state’s International Conference Centre, Awka.
“The project, when completed, will add value to the economy of the state by creating massive employment for the people,’’ Gov. Willie Obiano said this at the project site, Agu-Awka, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA).
The Governor, who toured the site, noted that the nationwide shutdown affected the stipulated delivery time.
“Government will endeavour to complete the project as designed. A parcel of land has been mapped out for construction of a 5-Star Hotel that will complement the centre.’’
Gov. Obiano, then, called on industrialists to partner the state on the hotel project.
Earlier, Commissioner for Housing, Mr Michael Okonkwo said the delay in project deliver was because of nationwide lockdown but re-assured that roofing of the centre would commence in two weeks time.
Commissioner added lockdown delayed the arrival of container load of materials expected to be used in the completion of the job.
The facility is a 10,000-capacity International Conference Centre. The job has reached an advanced stage.
The project was scheduled for delivery this year but slowed down by ravaging Coronavirus pandemic.
The Site Manager, Abiola Kolawole confirmed that although the project had been delayed, they were still able to complete some strategic parts of the building, pending the arriving of the containers.
