Awka-Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala says sensitisation campaigns to Hausa Community, Amansea is in continuation of Government’s effort at protecting people from the Coronavirus pandemic.
Dr Okpala said this while addressing the Hausa Community in Gariki, Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area (LGA).
“What we are doing today is a continuation of our community sensitisation and mobilisation with regards to containment, being championed by the state government.
“The fight against COVID-19 pandemic is a collective responsibility for all and not just the government.’’
He notes: “Gov. Willie Obiano has directed the Ministry of Health and the State’s Rapid Response team (RRT) to always carry out massive active case search in urban and rural areas.
“His directive is that we look at certain areas in the state like Onitsha, Nnewi and some parts of Awka. So, today’s visit is for us to interact with the cluster at Gariki, Amansea.
“We are here to also discuss infection prevention and control with them and we are glad that they are observing some of the stipulated measures given by the NCDC/WHO.
“We are truly pleased that they have in the market, buckets with running water, soap and hand sanitisers. They also comply with use of face masks.
“The interaction with their leaders has been fruitful because they have agreed to send 10 persons that will constitute COVID-19 Taskforce in the market.
“It is our responsibility to train the Taskforce because they are the people that will enforce all the measures,’’ he explained.
The commissioner also inspected borders of Anambra and Enugu and commended the State COVID-19 Taskforce that comprised Rapid Response Team, Police, FRSC, NSCDC and some Government appointees.
Alhaji Bello Maigari, Chairman Cattle Market Amansea applauded the State Government’s efforts at containing the virus in the state.
Maigari noted that government had done well by enlightening the public on COVID-19 preventive measures, stressing that the commissioner’s visit also boosted their morale in committing to the fight against the pandemic.
