Oko (Orumba North LGA) Oct. 20, 2020 (MOI) Commissioner for Basic Education, Mrs Kate Omenugha, says the Anambra State Government is working out modalities to ensure that cost of running government is reduced by next year.
Omenugha made this known at Community Secondary School, Oko, Orumba North LGA, during a distribution of Infrared thermometers to primary and secondary schools in the area.
The infrared thermometers were distributed to schools in Nnewi and Onitsha education zones too.
She noted that the Coronavirus pandemic had made it necessary for meetings to be held in virtual space, thereby reducing the rate at which government officials travel out for meetings.
“We all know that before the pandemic, people do travel to Abuja and other places for meetings.
“However, COVID-19 has made it inevitable for such meetings to be held online; this has helped to reduce cost of governance,’’ Omenugha said.
She urged Head Teachers and Principals to update their knowledge of computer, which would help them to cope with the new order brought about by the pandemic.
The commissioner also said that returns by teachers, education secretaries, and zonal directors of education would be done carried on, online from next year.
She added that they would convene a meeting, which would be attended by teachers, education secretaries, and zonal directors to find out areas that might hinder them from doing the returns online.
Omenugha called on them to keep the thermometers safe and handle them with utmost care as though they were their personal property.
Commissioner also urged them to make use of the infrared thermometers so that the aim of government in providing the thermometers to schools would be achieved.
She also commended them for supporting the education sector in taking education in Anambra to greater heights.
Mrs Chinelo Nwauba, Chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Aguata Zone, thanked the state government for prompt payment of workers’ salaries, noting that it had been an encouragement to them.
