The Nigerian government says it is working to resolve all outstanding issues with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, who embarked on indefinite strike on Monday.

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige said this, in Abuja, during a meeting he held with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The meeting agreed on the forensic audit of the sum of N30bn earlier given to ASUU in 2010 and agreed on monthly remittances to the lecturers, while the audit lasts.

The Minister said significant steps were been taken towards the resolution of the issues raised by ASUU.

The minister assured members of ASUU and Nigerians, that government was already at work to resolve all outstanding issues, in line with the resolve of the present administration to put a final stop to any form of disruption of universities’ academic calendar.
