The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has inaugurated a committee tasked with establishing the National Health Facility Regulatory Agency (NHFRA) to enhance healthcare standards across Nigeria.
In a statement by AD (Information and Public Relations), Ado Bako, Dr. Alausa emphasized that the NHFRA would play a critical role in the Federal Government’s efforts to ensure that all healthcare facilities operate at exemplary standards.
‘This committee’s formation is a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to a healthcare system that is safe, efficient, and equitable,’ he remarked.
Drawing parallels with successful international models like the UK’s Care Quality Commission and the US Joint Commission, Dr. Alausa stressed the importance of effective regulation in improving patient care.
‘Effective healthcare regulation is about fostering continuous improvement and excellence,’ he said.

Dr. Alausa urged members to ensure that NHFRA sets a high standard for healthcare regulation in Nigeria and the region.
Permanent Secretary Kachallom Daju, represented by Dr. Dogara Okaro, underscored the importance of a well-regulated healthcare environment.
‘This committee’s work is crucial in laying the foundation for a pivotal institution in our health sector,’ she noted.
In her goodwill message, Dr. Adedolapo Fashola, Permanent Secretary of Health for the FCT, commended the initiative, expressing confidence that it will improve healthcare outcomes and accountability.
Dr. Jimoh Saludeen, Director of Health Services, thanked the Minister, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to achieve the committee’s goals.
‘All hands must be on deck to ensure effective healthcare outcomes,’ he said.
