Hockey League: Nasarawa defeats Bauchi, qualifies for semis

Nasarawa Flickers of Lafia on Wednesday thrashed Bauchi Flickers 2-0 to top Group B with six points in the male competition of the ongoing National Hockey League One in Abuja.

Abdulsalam Aliyu scored the first goal in the 21st minute while Dantani Kolo extended the lead in the 40th minute of the game.

Head Coach of Nasarawa Flickers, Zainab Suleiman, said the victory was for God and the state, adding that the players were determined to win the league.

I am thankful to God for giving us this victory. It is not by our strength.

It is God that has crowned our hard work and I know He will lead us to win the league.

We are looking forward to 2019 to play in the Super League because, by the grace of God, we have qualified,” she said.

Delta Flickers are topping Group A of the competition with six points.

Meanwhile, Kano Flickers are out of the league, having lost two matches.

Early in the day, the match between Delta Flickers and the Benue team had ended 1-0.

NAN reports that the league will end on Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium.
