Iyiowa Odekpe (Ogbaru LGA)-Member representing Ogbaru Constituency II in Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Somto Udeze has handed over a primary health facility to Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA).
Mr Udeze bankrolled the building’s healthcare centre.
The inauguration, which featured free medical care such as, sugar test, check of blood pressure, eye test, blood test, counseling and distribution of free drugs to members of the community took place at Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA).
Mr Udeze said that the journey in constructing the edifice started about five years ago when he told his people to go to Iyiowa and identify the needs of the people.
He said that the management of health facilities should not be left only to the state or LG authority but also that of the community.
“I have travelled a lot, visited Enugu, Imo and some other states; most times the communities are seen keeping their health facilities in great condition as it is their primary function.’’
The House member commended ASPHCDA, saying that its activities in Ogbaru LGA were encouraging. He noted that the health workers were doing better presently than in the past.
“I urge health workers to go to any environment that they are posted to, adapt and start working there. Our major challenge here is flooding; so if there is any way we can help them, I believe we can.’’
Mr Udeze, then, prayed that the health facility which was handed over to the Agency would be an instrument of change in Ogbaru LGA.
Executive Secretary, ASPHCDA, Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu while thanking the House Member for his kind gesture, said that primary healthcare was the first point for care in the community; it thrives better with community participation.
“Ogbaru LGA is densely populated, so this kind of facility is very much needed here.
“We have looked at the facility, but will further assess, classify and post the right category of staff members to work there.
“We will also monitor and include it in the list of primary health facilities in the state.”
Former Secretary to Anambra State Government (SSG), Mr Oseloka Obaze said that it was a thing of joy and thanksgiving that the people representing them were now giving back to the community.
He noted that community healthcare means that healthcare was close to the people and prayed that the facility would aid in bringing good health to the people.
Mr Obaze commended Mr Udeze and ASPHCDA for all they were doing for the people both in the distribution of dividends of democracy and strengthening the healthcare system in the community.
Social Mobilisation Officer (SMO), Ogbaru Local Government Health Authority (LGHA), Mrs Fidelia Chidozie announced an upcoming Immunisation campaign against Yellow Fever and Meningitis in the state.
She urged the people to spread the message to every member of the community so as to avoid cases of noncompliance during the exercise.
