House of Reps: 2020 budget passes second reading

The Nigerian House of Representatives has pass the second reading of the 2020 Appropriation Bill.

This followed the conclusion of debate on the General Principles of the bill laid before the Joint Session of the National Assembly on Tuesday.

During the debate, members expressed the need an increase in the budgetary allocations to critical sectors that would propel the National economic growth.

Mr. Babajimi Benson a member from Lagos State while contributing emphasized the need for increasing funds to education to provided the needed qualified manpower for the country.

The House then suspends plenary for nineteen days to allow the appropriation committee to interface with government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as part of measures adopted to speedily consider the proposal.

Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, while announcing the suspension of the plenary tasked the lawmakers to strengthen efforts in realizing the set objectives.

Some analysts believed that the speed at which the 2020 budget proposal, indicates the commitment of the lawmakers to pass the budget on time.
