Abuja:Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has approved the formation of a national campaign council and a presidential campaign management committee in preparation for the 2027 elections.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the council will be chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, a noted political organiser and administrator. Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai will serve as Deputy Chairman.
Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central, has been appointed as Director-General and Campaign Manager. In this role, Akobundu will oversee the coordination and implementation of campaign activities throughout Nigeria, drawing on his military, administrative, legislative, and political experience.
The campaign structure will include six operational directorates, each led by a Deputy Director-General, with 30 Directors handling specific responsibilities. Dele Momodu, a journalist and publisher, will oversee the Media and Communications Directorate as D
eputy Director-General, managing media operations across various platforms.
Senator Dino Melaye will also be involved in the campaign, focusing on political mobilisation, national outreach, and public engagement. Economist and public policy expert Mohammed Hayatudeen will coordinate the policy team, collaborating with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and Aare Aremijoye on policy development.
Additionally, Professor Kingsley Moghalu will bring his expertise in monetary policy, financial-sector governance, and economic development to the campaign. The Campaign Advisory Council will be led by John Oyegun, former Edo Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Former Senator Ben Obi and Lawal Batagarawa will serve as deputy chairmen, with Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, acting as Secretary of the campaign advisory council. The campaign will address issues such as food, transportation, energy costs, unemployment, insecurity, purchasing power, and governance challenges across the nation.
