Political Office holders have been advised to use their position to help the poor, stressing that while positions are transient, the people remains after politicians might have left office.
The clerics gave the admonition in Osogbo, Osun State capital while delivering lectures at an Annual Ramadan lecture of the Oranmiyan Movement, in collaboration with the Enroute Rauf Team, a political platform of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salman said the present day politicians and office holders have bastardised the legacies of the nationalists and the nation's founding fathers.
Salman tasks those seeking political power to always make provision for social infrastructure and good living condition for the masses, maintaining that the poor masses deserve care and attention from the elected leaders.
He admonished politicians to remember that the office they occupy were temporary, and the welfare of the masses who voted them into office should be taken care of.
During the sermon, Alhaji Ustaz Orimadegun asked political office holders to be alive to their duties and provide citizens with good and qualitative education.
Orimadegun urged them to leave the legacy of integrity, stating that the electorates and history would never forget what they did in power.
He stressed that whatever they do in office would determine the kind of treatment they get from the people after leaving office.
The third scholar, Sheik Daoud Alfanla tasked politicians to endeavor to discover the people's needs in order to proffer solution to them. .
Alfanka cited examples of the prophets in the Qur'an who had compassion for the people they govern and task those in the seat of power in Nigeria to emulate them.
Mr Niyi Aluko, the Coordinator of the Oranmiyan Group said the Ramadan lecture was also to mark the 61st birthday of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola who happens to be the founder and mentor of the Oranmiyan Group worldwide.
Aluko said Aregbesola was worth celebrating because he had transformed Osun in his seven and half years as governor, praying that whoever becomes the next governor should continue with the developmental programmes of the Aregbesola's administration
