Nigeria Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI), seeks to partner the Osun state government in South West Nigeria on empowering women Farmers in the state for better agronomic practices and benefits.
The National Coordinator of NWAPDI Farmer Omolara Svensson led the NWAPDI delegation on a courtesy visit to the Osun state government at the Awolowo house in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital.
Stating the purpose of the visit, Svensson said a state like Osun that is rich in agricultural produce such as palm oil, Cassava, Garri, Cocoa etc should harness their agricultural prowess and earn from it.
As it concerns women Farmers in Osun state she noted that in this 21st century women should be accorded a better farming and processing conditions as the the current methods being applied by the women poses great health risk.
She advocated for mechanisation by acquiring locally fabricated machines for processing palm oil, Garri and others in order to boost the quality of produce for a better cha
nce at export.
Svensson assured the Osun state government that a partnership with NWAPDI will benefit the women of the state as the women are enthusiastic and determined to farm and all they need is the right support.
‘But I sit here today, Ma, to assure you that a partnership with us will not only be for women, because our youth wing is both gender, and that the right thing that is to be done with these resources in the agricultural sector, starting from Osun State, is what we are going to do with whatever resources and support that we get through this collaboration and partnership’.
Receiving the NWAPDI delegation on behalf of the Osun state government, the Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Adenike Adeleke the delegation that their proposals will be given the needed attention.
She stated that she will push for the partnership to be a reality as it has to do with the betterment of women Farmers in the state and the state holds whatever has to do women in high regards.
