Owerri:Interswitch, a prominent integrated payments and digital commerce company in Africa, has emphasized the urgent need for Nigeria to develop adaptive financial infrastructure to ensure sustainable economic growth and support future digital payment systems. This call was made by Mr. Tyoyila Aga, Vice President of Business Innovation and Growth at Interswitch, during the TechConnect 6.0 conference held in Owerri.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Aga stressed the importance of designing financial infrastructure that can absorb economic shocks and market disruptions. He highlighted the necessity for financial systems to maintain security and promote financial inclusion across all economic sectors, amidst rapid digitization of financial services.
Mr. Justice Okoye, Chairman of the Imo Internal Revenue Service, delivered a keynote address discussing the role of connected and adaptive infrastructure in enhancing institutional strength and service delivery. He identified six pillars essential for effective revenue administration, including taxpayer identity and technology.
In another keynote address, Imo Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Chuck Chukwuemeka, emphasized the need for the financial sector to focus on interoperability, data intelligence, and cybersecurity resilience. He cited Imo’s transition to an intelligent financial framework, illustrated by the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the Imo Geographical Information System, as examples of strategic financial controls.
The event was attended by stakeholders from various sectors and included discussions on how adaptive financial infrastructure can support changing markets. It featured a panel discussion on the role of government, industry, and talent in building a digital economy and a session on public-private partnerships in digital transformation.
The Owerri conference marked the first stop in the TechConnect 6.0 nationwide tour, with future events planned for Abuja, Ibadan, and Lagos later in October.
