Post: Investment in Culture and Tourism Urged to Boost Jobs and Promote Africa’s Image

Lagos:Stakeholders in the culture, tourism, and creative sectors have emphasized the need for increased investment in these industries to generate employment for young people and enhance Africa’s cultural heritage. This call was made during the ‘165 Days Across Africa’ Tourism, Education and Creative Economy Symposium and Award at the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Lagos Creative Hub.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event celebrated Valerie of Africa’s extensive journey across the continent and her climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, drawing cultural leaders, creatives, and advocates together. It also marked several significant anniversaries, including the International Day of the Girl Child, World Tourism Day, and 50 years of Nigeria’s National Theatre, FESTAC ’77, and Eko Hotel and Suites.

The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Eze Nnobi, Deputy Director of NCAC. The keynote address, delivered by Yinka Adebiyi, Chairman of FESTA Africa, highlighted the global impact of Nigerian music, fashion, and storytelling, describing Africa’s culture as a significant global influence. Adebiyi encouraged young Nigerians to use digital platforms to promote African culture and called for better infrastructure to support tourism.

Bone Squad, a music producer and actor, described the ‘165 Days Across Africa’ project as an initiative to showcase the continent through travel, tourism, and documentary efforts. The project included visits to Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Egypt. He urged Africans to explore and promote their continent’s cultural attractions.

The event also featured an exhibition and awards ceremony recognizing contributions to culture and the empowerment of the girl-child. Emmanuel Eide was honored for his work in public speaking and communication skills, and the late Prof. Jacob Festus Ademi Ajayi was posthumously recognized for his contribution to African history.

Valerie of Africa expressed gratitude to her sponsors for their support. The event concluded with a message of unity and pride in Africa, encapsulated in the phrase, ‘My Africa, Your Africa, Our Africa.’
