Three Hundred and Sixteen Nigerian youths have graduated from the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Model Skills Training Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The graduands were awarded the National Innovative Diploma (NID) and the National Vocational Certificate (NVC) by the Centre.
Sir Joseph Ari, Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), speaking at the occasion, emphasized that skills acquisition remains the most viable and sustainable solution to combatting unemployment and poverty.
He said that the graduates can compete with the best in their various fields anywhere in the world:
The 316 students that are graduating today will either go home with the National Innovative Diploma and National Institute of Technical Education Certificate (NITEC) or the National Vocational Certificate (NVC) and the ITF certificate of attendance.
With its unique approach of Hands-on, Minds-on and Hearts-on training delivery method, we believe that these graduands have been imparted with the right skills, knowledge and values to be Work-ready, World-ready and Future-ready.
Apart from having the benefit of the best equipment and tools, our training was structured to equip them with requisite skills to start-up on their own; and from our tracking and monitoring system, we have largely succeeded in this regard as over 65% of the graduates of the MSTC in the last six years are successful entrepreneurs.
Commenting, Saratu Aliyu, President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), said human capital development is critical for the economic growth of the country.
Please accept my assurances that our Association is a ready partner in projects and programmes that contribute to the sustainable economic growth and development of our country, Nigeria, she added.
The Director-General, Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association, Dr Timothy Olawale, urged the graduates not to relent in their pursuit and become great entrepreneurs as the future of the country lies with them.
