Lagos: The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has announced the commencement of farmer registrations under the ‘Produce for Lagos’ programme. The initiative aims to boost food production tailored for the Lagos market by allowing farmers to sell their produce directly to the state at predetermined prices.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ms Abisola Olusanya, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, emphasized that with Lagos being the largest food consumer in Nigeria with a population exceeding 24 million, this programme is crucial. It is designed to provide farmers with a direct market, minimize the risk of food wastage, ensure price stability, and enhance farmers’ income.
Olusanya highlighted that the programme would facilitate agricultural trade between Lagos and other states, improve food distribution channels, and fortify the food supply chain. The initiative is focused on enhancing food production within Lagos while also establishing collaborations with farmers from major food-producing regions nationwide.
By registering, farmers will be integrated into a centralized database, enabling the state to effectively plan, offer interventions, and provide necessary support services. Farmers are encouraged to register using the official link or through the ministry’s platforms.
