The Lagos state government has inaugurated the new executive body of Nigerian Legion, the state Chapter with a charge to be more committed for impactful outcomes to the body and the state.
The State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef says the state is committed to the welfare of the ex-servicemen and has programmes of activities to ensure optimal use of their services in the development of the state.
Abdul Lateef explained that the recent election which ushered in the new executive body of the legion was adjudged free, fair and the governor of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has ordered for their inauguration.
The welfare of the Legionnaires is uppermost on the mind of the Governor and His Excellency has done everything to ensure that the organization foster brotherliness, comradeship among their members. Nigerian Legion, Lagos Chapter has always been valuable partner in the sustainable of safety and security that has prevailed on Lagos. Abdul Lateef said
The Commissioner said that the style of governance in the state has allowed for the upgrade and enhancement of the body to perform better, stressing that the Legion is one of the architects of sustained security and peace in the state.
Commissioner said: And now, with the policy of inclusive governance by the Administration of His Excellency, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the body has not only stepped up its traditional role of administering to the needs and welfare of the widows, orphans ad other dependants of our departed heroes, who had paid the ultimate price for the love of this Nation, but has also been more proactive in the state’s programmes and activities relating to peace and security as well.
Dr. Abdul Lateef who advised the new Executives of the Legion to see the task as a way to serve for the development of the state reminded the body that the recent gesture by the Governor to engage some of its members was a pointer to the attention of the state government towards the body.
According to him with the recent initiative and support of Governor Ambode, to the state Chapter of Nigerian Legion the approved sum of N25 million and the directive to engage 3000 Legionnaires for security in all primary and secondary schools, could not have come at a better time.
By this empowerment, Nigerian Legion, Lagos Chapter is poised for higher responsibility and bigger roles which would further deepens its partnership with this administration, improve the standard of living of Legionnaires in the state, improve the level of security and safety in Lagos and bring about a new level of greatness and unprecedented of peace, concord and unity in Lagos.
Dr.Abdul Lateef stated that the Governor is more passionate and focused on the Smart City objectives and would continue to engage the Legionnaires and other well meaning bodies to ensure that Lagos not only remains in a prime position among other states in the country, but also attain the status of an ideal state, capable of providing excellent atmosphere for continuous advancement and humanity and increased accelerated socio-economic and infrastructural growth.
He however gave the assurance that states would always reward innovative results that are capable of enhancing human progress and would continue with programmes and activities that will promote peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship of all religious and ethnic groups in the state.
