Lagos seeks support of Public Servants for effective delivery

The Lagos State government has solicited the support of Public Servants to help in realising the goals of the government in raising the status of the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson- Oke was speaking at a two-day training workshops for top management staff on the essential nature of Managerial Skills and Personal Effectiveness for Public Servants in Lagos.

Dr. Benson-Oke said the training was to enhance the development of hard and soft skills that are vital for organisational growth and personal effectiveness.

This two-day training offers the selected participants a unique and valuable opportunity to aspire to the height of self- awareness and self development that are indispensable for the actualisation of corporate and individual goals.

It also aimed at increasing the competencies and productivity of individuals officers with a view to contributing to the overall productivity and effectiveness of the Lagos State Public Service. Benson- Oke explained.

High Performance

The Commissioner noted that high performance have been known to increase in organisations that expose their human capital to development through training programmes .

He said these programmes would be translated into a more dynamic, effective and efficient Lagos State Public Service.

Dr. Benson-Oke is however optimistic that state’s Civil Service will make more rapid progress and experience exponential growth when its units and teams and department are headed by persons with managerial quality.

He maintained that Lagos state has demonstrated its leadership role in Nigeria with numerous infrastructure renewal development projects achieved under three years.

The Commissioner urged participants to take advantage of the training to help in sustaining the state’s achievement of transiting from Mega to Smart City.

Equipping Participants

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Rhoda Ayinde explained that the training was organised to equip participants on leadership training which they would impact at work and their various homes.

Leadership is the beginning of self management. The moment you can manage yourself, your time and resources, then you’re a leader.

Leaders are learners and continuous learners are relevant whenever they find themselves Mrs Ayinde said.

She acknowledged that the support of the state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode was not only building infrastructures but also building human capacity.

Some of the participants also commended the state government for the training.

They promised to train others at their various Ministries and agencies on the knowledge acquired at the workshop.
