Lagos: Organisers of the 2025 DJ Marathon Festival are making headway in preparing for a 96-hour nonstop beach party set to take place in Lagos.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Buchi Henry, the founder of Afroxella, highlighted the growing international interest in Lagos’ vibrant nightlife and its famed Detty December celebrations, which has led to heightened curiosity from foreign party enthusiasts. The event is scheduled to run from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026.
Henry noted that inquiries about the festival’s details have been coming from various countries, including Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France, and Portugal. Many travelers are eager to experience Lagos’ cultural energy firsthand during the end-of-year festivities. The festival aims to encapsulate the spirit of Lagos, with DJs being a central component of the city’s nightlife.
The concept of the DJ Marathon Festival naturally evolved due to the significance of disc jockeys in Lagos’ social events. The team studied previous marathon attempts globally and decided to organize a 96-hour festival featuring at least 100 DJs playing simultaneously. This endeavor is designed to showcase Lagos’ unparalleled party culture.
The timing of the festival, which coincides with New Year celebrations, is strategically chosen to enhance its global appeal. By starting on December 29 and ending on January 2, the festival hopes to attract international attention and offer a memorable celebration as attendees cross into 2026.
The festival will be hosted at Wave Beach, with additional activities at Kyma and Athena Beach. While the event will be partially free, most of it will be ticketed due to the incorporation of three large beach houses. The festival’s design includes a wide range of activities such as food exhibitions, fashion showcases, fitness sessions, and wellness elements, broadening its appeal.
Additionally, the festival will feature yoga, Zumba, gospel sessions, R and B performances, rap battles, and hip-hop showcases. The event promises to be Africa’s largest and longest beach festival, with live streaming to 100 countries extending its reach far beyond Lagos.
Veteran DJs such as DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility, and DJ Bombastic have been invited to participate, alongside more than 100 young DJs who have entered the open Marathon Challenge. This initiative aims to ensure fairness and encourage emerging talent, with over 50 slots allocated to upcoming DJs, including female performers.
