Late Senator Adeleke’s brother wins Osun West Senatorial election

Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Osun west senatorial bye-election, held on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer, Professor Laide Lawal of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, in Ekiti state. declared Adeleke the winner, having scored the highest votes in the poll.

Ademola polled 97,480 votes to defeat his major opponent, Senator Mudashiru Hussein of the APC, who polled 66116 votes.

The PDP candidate won in nine out of the 10 local government areas in the Districts, while Senator Hussein won in Ejigbo local government.

Otunba Adeleke is the younger brother of late Isiaka Adeleke, whose death on the 23rd of April this year occasioned the by-election.

Voice of Nigeria recalls that Adeleke defected from the APC to the PDP after his former party refused to adopt him as the candidate for the by-election.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has expressed appreciation and gratitude to the residents of Osun West Senatorial District who through their support in various forms, made the outstanding victory of its candidate possible.

In a release by the state chairman, Soji Adagunodo, the party acknowledged the roles of all those who worked for the victory.

The State Chairman, the State Working Committee and the entire leadership of the party acknowledges the roles of traditional rulers, Community leaders, professional bodies, pensioners and retirees, Trade Unions, Civil servants, Teachers, Market men and women, Traders and Artisans, Students and Youth organisations, Religious bodies and several other individuals and groups who mobilised support, offered prayers and trooped out in large numbers to elect Otunba Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the Senator to represent Osun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Our appreciation also goes to Security Agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Media for discharging their duties professionally in this election.

Adagunodo said the confidence reposed in the PDP will make the party to be more committed to good governance, development, true service and respect for human dignity in the state.
