Lawmakers constitute committee on National Unity

The National Assembly is constituting a committee to dialogue with various region in Nigeria, to proffer lasting solutions for unity and development.

This follows the agitation for independence and restructuring of the Nation’s governing process.

The decision was contained in a motion unanimously adopted under Matters of Urgent Public Importance that called for stringent measures to solve the lingering political issues in Nigeria.

Issue of Devolution

The House leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila talked on the need to revisit the issue of devolution of powers rejected by the House in the recent Constitutional Amendments passed two months ago.

It is necessary for the house to take up its responsibility to save the country from disintegration, Mr Gbajabiamila said.

The lawmaker stated that Nigeria was being ridiculed at the comity of Nations.

He urged Nigerians to love the country more in their dealings like other nationals do to their countries.

The world is watching us, our fathers and our children are anticipating the intervention of this house. The question everybody asks is, what role would the National Assembly play? Mr. Gbajabiamila said.

Emerging Challenges

The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara advised members to be more dedicated in dealing with the emerging challenges facing the nation.

Congratulating Nigerians over the recent economic progress, Mr. Dogara pledged the lawmakers commitments for policies that would guarantee sound and productive economy.

We must caution however that the implementation of policies and hard work necessary to sustain a productive economy which the National Assembly highlighted in the Resolutions sent to the President earlier, should be continued with even greater vigour, to ensure that our people enjoy the positive impact of the exit, Mr. Dogara said.

He added that the lawmakers would make their executive branch more robust and informed.
