LG Commission inaugurates LINCU at Ojoto, urges workers to form co-operative societies

Ojoto (Idemili South LGA)-Anambra State Local Government Commission has inaugurated Local Government Investigation and Compliance Unit (LINCU) at Idemili South Local Government Headquarters, Ojoto.

The event was held during an assessment tour by the commission to Ojoto, aimed at monitoring the performance of individual staff members of the LGA and facilities at different departments.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr Peter Egenti said that inaugurating LINCU in the LGA was to make up for the over centralisation of assessment and monitoring from Awka.

He said his team had an objective to transform the LG system in Anambra State with the aim of improving productivity which would be achieved with the biggest tool of monitoring.

“You will be appointed based on assessment; if you do not perform, you will find yourself at the bottom of the ladder.

“The assessment of a LGA will be compared with those of other LGAs. The assessment is of great importance so that everybody will sit up,’’ Dr Egenti said.

On entrepreneurship, he said that he was looking forward to a time when an industry would spring up from LG and manned by its staff members.

He, then, enjoined workers to form cooperative societies and get registered to enable them to access loans easily.

Head Agric Department, Idemili South LGA, Mr Mike Chike commended the commission’s assessment approach.

Mr Chike noted that this would keep workers on their toes to be able to meet with the expected zeal to work.

Head, Local Government Administration, Mrs Jane Anene introduced the LG Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre to the visiting team.

At the Inspection of the centre, the staff member in charge, Mr Oyenuga Adeniyi said it started in February 2020 with publicity through President’s-Generals of towns within the LGA.

Mr Adeniyi said that the centre had trained some students introduced to them by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Head, Agric Department Mr Chike exhibited Agricultural produce like vitamin A enriched cassava, vegetables, palm fruits, Plantain harvested from farms of the LGA.

Head of Admin Department, Mrs Philomena Ekwuno exhibited COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), liquid soap, hand sanitiser, car wash detergent and face masks produced by staff members of the LGA.
