The League Management Company has stood by its words to begin the 2018/19 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday after it released the fixtures for the first matchday on Wednesday.
The abridged season of the NPFL is expected to hold between January and May with 24 teams in two groups. Following the conclusion of the group phase of the NNL Super 8 Play-offs, four teams Insurance of Benin, Remo Stars, Kada City Stars and Gombe United gained promotion to the NPFL.
According to the LMC, a mini-draw was conducted to determine the groups where the four teams will play in the abridged season.
However, the four new teams and the two clubs playing on the continent were excluded from playing on Sunday. Remo and Insurance will play in Group A while Kada and Gombe were drawn in Group B.
The mini-draw thus pitted Wikki Tourists against Insurance, Rivers United against Remo Stars, Yobe Desert Stars with Gombe United and Go Round against Kada.
The other postponed games are those between Lobi Stars and Katsina United and Enugu Rangers and Niger Tornadoes. Lobi are playing in the CAF Champions League while Rangers are in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In other matches scheduled for Sunday, Kwara United host Sunshine Stars while Enyimba host MFM. Nasarawa United host Abia Warriors, Kano Pillars play Heartland in Kano and Akwa United host El-Kanemi Warriors.
