Abuja: The Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has charged newly recruited staff to uphold integrity and professionalism in public service. The Director-General of the MCO, Obadiah Nkom, emphasized this directive during the induction of new staff and the administration of the Oath of Secrecy and Allegiance.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nkom urged the inductees to build a positive reputation from the beginning of their careers. He stressed the importance of leaving an enduring legacy through dedication and responsible service. The MCO boss described their appointments as a privilege to serve Nigeria and support national development. The induction program was designed to familiarize the new staff with public service procedures and governance principles, aiming to improve staff effectiveness and strengthen service delivery across the agency.
Nkom remarked that the public service cannot be better without adherence to governance principles, noting that governance would be very difficult otherwise. He explained that the management introduced the induction because some workers had not undergone such training before. The oath of secrecy and allegiance serves as a reminder about confidentiality obligations, and breaches could attract legal consequences under existing laws.
He emphasized the need to improve standards and promote discipline across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Nkom highlighted that the civil service is a structured institution guided by rules and regulations, with discipline being essential for achieving effective governance and public confidence. He pointed out that adherence to regulations had contributed to improvements within government institutions.
Nkom also mentioned ongoing reforms in the mining sector aimed at economic diversification, highlighting the efforts of the President and the Solid Minerals Minister. He noted that several developments were taking place in the sector through improved governance, emphasizing that governance is fundamentally about the people.
In her remarks, Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, Director of Human Resource Management, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, described the induction as vital. She explained that the program introduced new civil servants to their offices’ operations and mandates, guiding them towards efficient and effective service delivery while supporting career growth.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Olamijulu Emmanuel, a Mining Engineer, pledged commitment to public service values. He assured that they would maintain good reputations, build positive working relationships, communicate effectively, and follow service rules. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 111 staff members participated in the induction, including employees recruited in 2023 and 2025 across the organization.
