Abuja:The Defence Health Maintenance Ltd. (DHML) has started efforts to register all military veterans and their families on its healthcare portal to streamline access to medical services across the country.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, retired Rear Admiral Lawan Adams, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DHML, highlighted this initiative during a one-day interactive meeting with veterans in Abuja. Adams noted that the lack of enrollment on the DHML platform has been causing difficulties for veterans seeking medical attention at healthcare facilities.
The meeting aimed to raise awareness among veterans about the importance of enrollment and to address challenges they face in accessing healthcare services. Adams emphasized that registration on the DHML platform is crucial for accessing medical services in any hospital. He encouraged both retired and active personnel, along with their families, to register.
Adams also mentioned that DHML is collaborating with the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces, and civilian hospitals to ensure comprehensive medical care for service members, retirees, and their families. Enrollment will allow beneficiaries to access healthcare services nationwide. DHML has established a network of military and civilian healthcare providers to enhance service accessibility.
Despite the existence of healthcare facilities, Adams stressed that proper enrollment and integration into the system are essential for eligible beneficiaries. He encouraged veterans to share their experiences and challenges with DHML, assuring them of the organization’s commitment to improving service delivery.
Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeek, Director of Veterans Affairs at Naval Headquarters, highlighted the importance of the engagement, noting that many veterans are unaware of their healthcare privileges. He urged veterans to enroll on the DHML portal for seamless access to healthcare services and dispelled rumors about payments and other requirements.
Retired Lt.-Col. Susan Dibal, Head of the Veterans Department at DHML, stated that the engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration between DHML and veterans’ associations. Dibal acknowledged veterans’ significant sacrifices and emphasized their right to quality, timely, and compassionate healthcare. She encouraged veterans to provide feedback on the healthcare system, with DHML committed to working with stakeholders to address challenges.
The meeting gathered senior military officers, both serving and retired personnel, leaders of veterans’ associations, and other stakeholders to explore ways to improve healthcare delivery for veterans and their families.
