More roads in Anambra get facelift

By John Ndu : Anambra State government has continued to intervene in all dilapidated roads in the state to solve traffic congestion and enhance commercial activities, especially in the agrarian communities.

The observation was made during the inspection of ongoing construction of some major roads in the state.

Some of the roads include Coscharis – Onwuzulike Okonkwo – Francis Maduka roads in Nnewi North, Ogbuaka-Mgbuka-Amazu/Owerri road Onitsha, Ogbaru local government area and Umunya-Ogbunike-7th Mile Ogidi road in Oyi, Idemili South respectively and Radio Sapiensa road, 3-3 Fed Housing Onitsha.

The State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano while inspecting the roads said he would continue funding every project to lift the face of the state.

Speaking during inspecting the three major 8km Nnewi roads, Governor Obiano said one of the roads had been finalized and completed, while the other two would be completed before rainy season.

Governor Obiano promised to complete the light project in the area to compliment the ongoing lighting around the state.

The Contractor handling the project, Prince Chukwma Okoro commended the governor for his support and funding to ensure completion of the roads, adding that the roads would be completed according to specifications and before rainy season.

While further inspecting the 3.22 km road in Ogbaru, Governor Obiano expressed dissatisfaction on the slow pace of work in the area.

The governor noted that the state would continue distilling the water channels to ensure healthy environment for the people living in the area, urging them to avoid dumping of refuses in the drainage.

He commended the contractor for the quality of work, and charged him to speed up construction as to meet the targeted period.

Speaking while inspecting the 9.6 km Umunya – Ogbunike – Ogidi road, Governor Obiano disclosed that the roads when completed would open up the three agrarian communities and further link to other neighboring communities for easy movement of agricultural products.

He noted that the road would equally traverse expressway and would decongest traffic during festive periods.

On his part, the contractor and the Managing Director, Daniels Construction Company, Engr Daniel Ekene Nkwota said they had mobilized work force at the three communities so as to meet up with the expected period of completion.

While commending Governor Obiano for his support, the contractor disclosed that 3km had been asphalted, as the remnant roads would be completed as designed before rainy season.

Equally the Governor had a brief stop at the 1km Sapientia road, where he expressed satisfaction on the level of work done so far.
