Muslim women mark World Hijab Day

The Coalition of Nigeria Muslim women has joined Muslim women all over the world to mark this year’s World Hijab Day which is a day set aside to create awareness of the Muslim woman’s dress code.

World Hijab Day is celebrated on the 1st of February every year.

The Coalition of Nigeria Muslim women used the occasion to urge stakeholders and Muslims to focus on positive engagement and discharge of duty as required for mutual co-existence.

The National PRO Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women Mrs Aisha Umar Yusuf, also called on individuals and institutions to support and stand for women’s right irrespective of their religion.

The PRO explained that the Day is used to enlighten people about the significance of the Muslim woman’s cover of modesty the Hijab and to sustain discourse on the multi-faceted challenges faced by wearers highlighting any topical issues related to it.

She added that the theme of 2019 World Hijab Day # FreeinHijab seeks to keep the hijab discourse fully in the public domain, reiterating the full acceptance of hijab as a right and an identity.

Series of activities have been lined-up for this year’s World Hijab Day these include hijab awareness match and Keynote 2019 World Hijab Day paper titled: Hijab, The Gift of the Modern Woman.

The Coalition of Nigeria Muslim Women is a union of several Muslim women organisation in Abuja who came together to collaborate and strategise in a bid to promote and propagate issues of concern that affect the private and public life of women especially Muslim women.

The aim of the Society is to enhance general understanding of Hijab and promote inclusiveness of dress code of peace by creating fresh perspectives to the ongoing dialogue.
