Abuja:Mustapha Abdullahi, a candidate for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), emphasizes the need for unity and results-driven leadership to foster sustainable growth in Nigerian basketball.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdullahi believes that developing the sport requires the collective efforts of players, coaches, officials, administrators, stakeholders, and young talents. He highlighted the importance of effective leadership in creating an environment conducive to participation, where diverse interests can align around clear objectives.
Abdullahi remarked that progress in sports is rarely achieved in isolation, stressing the need for collaboration among stakeholders to maximize the potential of Nigerian basketball. He advocated for leadership that prioritizes the collective development of the sport, ensuring that decisions lead to tangible outcomes.
His experience in public-sector roles, such as serving as Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology and as Director-General and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, has strengthened his commitment to results-oriented leadership. Abdullahi’s background in youth mobilisation and sports-sector coordination underlines his belief in teamwork, accountability, and effective delivery.
He urged stakeholders in the basketball community to support a leadership approach focused on unity, inclusion, accountability, and measurable results, which he sees as critical for building a stronger federation and ensuring a sustainable future for Nigerian basketball.
