Abuja: The Chairman of UNICCON Group of Companies, Prof. Chuks Ekwueme, announced that MySmartMedic, the group’s digital health startup, aims to enhance healthcare access by expanding its reach across the global market. Ekwueme, who is also the Founder of MySmartMedic, shared this vision during the inauguration of its Advisory Board in Abuja, seeking expert support and partnerships to advance the company’s mission.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ekwueme emphasized that MySmartMedic has been developed over four years through comprehensive research, innovation, testing, and refinement. He highlighted the importance of collaboration in realizing the full potential of the platform, which is designed to address significant needs within the digital healthcare ecosystem.
The newly established advisory board is expected to offer independent guidance on business decisions, identify growth opportunities, and craft expansion strategies both in Nigeria and across Africa. Ekwueme noted that the expertise and professional networks of board members would help position MySmartMedic as a global brand rather than a local enterprise.
In a significant development, Ekwueme revealed that the company is targeting an Initial Public Offering (IPO) within the next year. This move would enable the public to own shares and participate in MySmartMedic’s digital healthcare initiatives.
MySmartMedic distinguishes itself from other telemedicine platforms by catering to diverse socioeconomic groups, including rural communities, middle-income earners, and high-income earners. The company has developed innovative business models, including a community package for individuals without conventional smartphones or reliable internet access.
Additionally, MySmartMedic has created a native tablet capable of functioning with minimal connectivity, making it suitable for underserved and rural areas. The company’s services also include a smartwatch wearable that facilitates telemedicine and enhances the monitoring and transmission of health information.
Leveraging UNICCON’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing, MySmartMedic offers solutions tailored to African conditions. Ekwueme emphasized that the company is not just another mobile application but the culmination of four years of dedicated research and development, with ownership of the intellectual property behind its solutions.
Dr. Offiong Archibong-Anyiawu, Chairman of the MySmartMedic Board, stated that the board would bridge the company’s vision with its implementation, institutionalization, and long-term sustainability. Meanwhile, Dr. Cornel Agwu, a finance, investment, and inclusion specialist, praised the company’s focus on healthcare access and financial inclusion.
Mr. Hamilton Gabriel, Head of the Telemedicine Subsidiary at MySmartMedic, provided an overview of the platform, which offers home-based teleconsultations and refers serious cases to appropriate health facilities. The company plans to deploy MySmartMedic in primary healthcare centers nationwide.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that MySmartMedic also manufactures wristwatches and bracelets designed to monitor individuals’ health status, further contributing to improved healthcare access and delivery.
