The Director General, National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), Prof. Okechukwu Ukwuoma has tasked workers to develop effective communication strategies to ensure timely delivery of services to the public.
Ukwuoma said organisations must also have effective communication systems to engender support and enable people to key into their vision and objectives.
The director general gave the advice on Thursday at the ongoing three-day training on strategic communication and public speaking, holding in Akure, Ondo State.
According to him, it is important for organisations to develop effective communication to ensure clarity of set objectives and enable workers to provide effective services to meet the collective aspirations of the organisations.
He maintained that communication breakdown was largely responsible for low productivity.
“Public speaking in communication has played a major role in education, government, leadership and business.
“Words have the power to inform, persuade, educate, and even entertain, and the spoken word can be even more powerful than the written word in the hands of the right speaker,” he said.
The NACETEM boss said that the training was organised to acquaint participants on the need to be explicit in their submissions, so as to elicit support of the public for programmes and policies of government.
“Whether as a small business owner, public or civil servant, teacher, student or leader, strategic communication and public speaking are important,” he said.
The director general added that the training on strategic speaking and communication was to emphasise the significance of communication in a digital technology era.
He said the training would critically assess issues such as clarifying public speaking, effective communication for optimal results, strategic delivery in public speaking, innovation management and productivity, among others.
“This training will improve participants’ confidence, enhance better research skills and stronger deductive skills, as well as improve their ability to advocate for meaningful causes at personal and organizational levels’’.
Mr Ekpo Nta, Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, acknowledged the fruitful partnership between the commission and NACETEM.
“We have received cutting edge facilities and training opportunities for our staff from NACETEM,’’ Nta said.
He said the training was to develop the capacity of staff of the commission to function optimally.
