The Presidential Advisory Committee on Elimination of Drug Abuse says it is engaging major stakeholders across Nigeria to address the issue of drugs.
The chairman of the committee, General Buba Marwa made the disclosure diring the committee’s meeting with the Director General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, in Abuja.
He also said that there is an ongoing discussion to reach an understanding on how to deal drug abuse which is ravaging the youths.
It is within our terms of reference to interface with and engage key stakeholders to discuss with them, their roles and responsibilities on drug abuse.
And to also Find out how far they have gone in meeting those roles as far as this matter is concerned. And if not, determine where and how we can support jointly to assist towards bringing about the required changes that would facilitate meeting these objectives, he said.
General Marwa, added that the current administration is committed to eradicating drug abuse in Nigeria.
In her remarks, the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said that she is willing and ready to work with the committee.
She noted that a lot of efforts are being put in towards eradicating drug abuse which has robbed Nigeria of two generations of youths so far.
Im very very confident that this would work. First we have passion for what we are doing.
A country can not be greater than it’s youths. We have lost about two generations now. We are here because of our children, professor Adeyeye said.
She said that NAFDAC would soon commence a nation wide awareness campaign to educate the youths of the dangers of drug abuse.
