NAN Cooperative President Pledges Investment Opportunities, Housing Programme


Abuja: Aliyu Abubakar-Idris, President of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society, has committed to prioritizing new investment opportunities for the society’s sustainable development. He also emphasized the utilization of the society’s lands for staff housing estates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abubakar-Idris made these pledges during the inauguration of the society’s newly elected executives in Abuja. Congratulating the new executives and society members for electing them, Abubakar-Idris expressed a commitment to developing cooperative lands across the FCT and surrounding areas to ensure affordable housing for members. He also highlighted that the new leadership would focus on improving the investment of funds in viable businesses.



The outgoing President, Stephen Igiewe, advised the new executives to be firm and prioritize members’ interests in decision-making. The new leadership team emerged from a competitive election at the cooperative’s 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Abubakar-Idris was elected unopposed as the new President, along with Wunmi Agboola as Treasurer and Abdulrasheed Adebayo as Welfare Officer.



In other election results, Segun Lawal won the Vice-President position with 92 votes against Joseph Edeh’s 90 votes. John Ojamiren secured the Secretary post with 116 votes, defeating Uche Anunne, who received 64 votes. Idris Momoh was elected as the Financial Secretary, while Dennis Pollyn won the Public Relations Officer (PRO) position with 57 votes, surpassing Chidi Opara and Ese Eniola-Williams, who received 55 and 20 votes, respectively. Dorcas Jonah claimed the Assistant Secretary post with 155 votes over Joy Nwachukwu’s 29 votes.



The election was observed by officials from the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
