Post: NAN Editor-in-Chief Emphasizes Commitment to Authentic News

Abuja: The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) must continue to uphold its reputation as a trusted source of authentic, objective, and balanced news, the new NAN Editor-in-Chief, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed-Aliyu, has said. Aliyu highlighted the agency’s role in delivering well-researched reports amidst the rapid pace of social media reporting.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Aliyu emphasized that while NAN might not always be the first to break news due to the speed of social media, it remains a platform Nigerians can rely on for accurate information. She stressed the importance of in-depth investigation and verification to uncover the truth behind every situation.

Aliyu, who has served for 34 years, expressed her fulfillment in becoming the agency’s first female Editor-in-Chief more than four decades after its establishment. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged the increased responsibilities that come with her new role.

She urged the staff of the editorial department to promote unity, cooperation, and mutual support to advance NAN’s mandate. Aliyu emphasized the need for a conducive working environment and encouraged journalists to prioritize fact-checking over rushing with unverified information.

Aliyu reiterated the importance of maintaining NAN’s integrity and credibility by ensuring reports are authentic, balanced, and fair. She assured that upholding these standards would continue to earn the trust of the audience.
