Abuja: The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in collaboration with CWAY Water and Alfa Designs Nigeria Ltd., hosted its fifth quarterly fitness walk to enhance staff wellness, team bonding, and social cohesion among employees.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event featured a variety of physical activities including walking, jogging, stretching, and games, which attracted participation from both NAN management and staff. The Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali M. Ali, highlighted that the initiative was established to promote wellness, togetherness, and social interaction among the Agency’s workers.
Ali noted that since its inception in 2024, the fitness walk has continued despite periodic schedule adjustments. The fifth edition of the exercise underscored its success in strengthening team spirit, promoting bonding, and encouraging healthy lifestyles among staff members. He emphasized the importance of regular physical exercise for media workers who often endure long hours in their roles, which can lead to health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
To further support staff wellness, NAN has equipped its headquarters with a gym and introduced a one-hour workload reduction twice weekly, enabling staff to exercise regularly. This arrangement aims to encourage workers to focus on their physical and mental health. The Agency has also extended the fitness initiative to its Lagos Directorate, adopting it as a monthly activity.
During the fitness walk, Ali stated that the event provides a platform for staff and management to interact without official hierarchies, fostering a sense of family and togetherness. Somtochukwu Ifediegwu, representing Alfa Designs Nigeria Ltd., expressed the company’s honor in supporting the initiative. She introduced their Genesis New Vision (GNV) application, which helps users monitor their health and fitness by tracking daily steps, setting fitness goals, and calculating calories.
Olwaseun Kumuyi, Regional Marketing Executive at CWAY Abuja Manufacturing, also commended NAN for the opportunity to participate in the exercise. He emphasized the importance of regular exercise, stretching, and adequate water intake for maintaining strength and promoting healthy living. Kumuyi stated that this was CWAY’s second participation in the fitness walk and pledged continued support for the initiative, pending management approval.
The fitness walk concluded with participants engaging in various physical activities, reinforcing wellness, team spirit, and stronger workplace relationships.
