Abuja: Nigeria’s Success Ogunjobi and China’s Hengzhi Cui completed a dominant week by winning back-to-back singles titles at the just concluded 2026 NASCO/ITF J30 World Tennis Tour Junior Championship in Abuja. The tournament showcased impressive performances from young athletes across 14 countries, all competing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ogunjobi claimed the girls’ singles title for the second consecutive week after defeating compatriot Khadijat Mohammed with a score of 6-2, 6-1 in the final match on Saturday. Demonstrating her prowess on the court, Ogunjobi dropped just one set throughout the week and also secured the girls’ doubles title alongside Emmanuel Kwange.
In the boys’ singles category, Hengzhi Cui replicated Ogunjobi’s success by defeating Nigeria’s Gbolahan Olawale 6-1, 7-6(8) to clinch his second consecutive J30 Abuja crown. Cui maintained an unbeaten record over the course of both weeks, showcasing his skill and determination.
The girls’ doubles final witnessed Emmanuel Kwange and Success Ogunjobi triumphing over Khadijat Mohammed and V.D. Rashmi Omaye Wijewardana from Sri Lanka with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory. In the boys’ doubles final, the Chinese duo of Jinxuan Cheng and Hengzhi Cui overcame Nigeria’s Gbolahan Oluwajuwon Olawale and his partner with a scoreline of 6-2, 4-6.
Success Ogunjobi expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating, ‘I’m happy with how I played all week. Beating my fellow Nigerians in the final shows how much our level has improved. I’m grateful to my coaches, parents, and NASCO for the support.’
Tournament Coordinator Oke Joseph highlighted the developmental success of the championship, noting that approximately 30 percent of Nigerian players were first-time ITF participants who gained valuable ranking points. The round-robin format provided every player with more matches, offering them invaluable experience.
The NASCO/ITF J30 Abuja is part of the ITF Junior Circuit, which aims to provide young players with ranking points and exposure as they prepare for the professional tour.
