The National Assembly says it is enacting a comprehensive legal framework on climate change governance to guide the country in meeting its nationally determined commitment to climate change.
In an interview with Voice of Nigeria, in Abuja, the Chairman House of Representatives’ Committee on Climate Change, Mr. Sam Onuigbo said the law will provide coordinated collaboration to reduce the impact of climate change.
Mr. Onuigbo said The National Assembly will continue to provide the legislative support for the country to meet its nationally determined commitment, NDC, towards mitigating the effect of climate change on the country.
Mr. Onuigbo said the two chambers of the National Assembly will continue to partner with the executive to see that Nigeria plays its expected role in ending the global problem.
Nigeria is moving steadily towards that commitment, the House and the National Assembly in general would continue to support the leadership role exhibited by President Muhammadu Buhari to reduce the devastating effect of climate change on Nigerians. the Lawmaker added.
The law, to be presented before the National Assembly soon, is expected to guide stakeholders in environmental protection and attract investment to Nigeria.
