Makurdi: The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abas, has committed to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges with enhanced efforts from the Nigerian Navy. During a visit to the newly established Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command and other formations, including the Nigerian Navy Provost Regulating School in Makurdi, Abas assured that the navy would collaborate with other security agencies to tackle these challenges.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Vice Admiral Abas emphasized the importance of working with stakeholders to enhance the country’s security. He stated, “I assure Nigerians that we are going to do our utmost best in securing this country.” Highlighting the significance of the Operations Command, Abas noted its strategic role within the navy and his intention to expedite actions for its operational readiness.
Vice Admiral Abas outlined plans to implement advanced technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat illegal bunkering and other security issues. He mentioned that these measures would be a departure from previous strategies, which have already shown positive results. Furthermore, he noted that improved security had led to an increase in oil production in the region, and efforts would continue to sustain and further improve this progress.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue, represented by his deputy Dr. Sam Ode, expressed support for security agencies in their mission to secure the nation. He acknowledged the longstanding presence of other branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces in Benue and expressed a commitment to being a supportive host to the navy and other security stakeholders.
