Post: NCWS Initiates Quarterly Aerobics to Boost Women’s Health in Nigeria

Abuja: The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has announced plans to organise aerobics sessions every three months to promote healthy living and physical activity among Nigerian women. The National President of NCWS, Princess Edna Azura, disclosed this during an aerobic exercise organised by the council for members and affiliated groups.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Azura said the initiative was prompted by the need for women to adopt healthier lifestyles, particularly as changing dietary habits and inadequate physical activity contributed to poor health outcomes. She urged Nigerian women, especially older women, to embrace regular exercise as part of their daily routines, emphasising that physical activity was essential for maintaining health and overall wellbeing.

Azura expressed her concern about the current eating habits and lack of physical activity, especially among older Nigerian women, and highlighted the importance of integrating exercise into daily life. She encouraged state presidents to replicate the exercise during meetings and extend the initiative to local government areas and ward levels, promoting a culture of physical activity nationwide.

The NCWS president also highlighted the council’s ongoing discussions on peace, security, and democracy, stressing the critical role of security in achieving peaceful coexistence, especially with upcoming elections. The National Secretary of NCWS, Dr Bolatito Babalola-Alabi, shared her positive experience from the exercise, noting its benefits for her wellbeing and mood.

Mrs Selena Ali, President of the NCWS Plateau Branch, also expressed her intention to incorporate the exercise into branch meetings, making it accessible to more women and enhancing their health and wellbeing. Princess Ada Amam, an affiliate member, pledged to replicate the initiative among members and affiliated groups, emphasizing the importance of combining regular exercise with healthy eating for women at different life stages.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the exercise brought together NCWS members and affiliates to encourage women to make physical activity and healthy living part of their daily routines.
