Abuja: The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has announced plans to organise aerobic exercise sessions every three months to promote healthy living and physical activity among Nigerian women. The National President of NCWS, Princess Edna Azura, revealed this initiative during an aerobic session organised by the council for its members and affiliated groups.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Azura stated that the initiative was driven by the need for women to adopt healthier lifestyles, particularly as changing dietary habits and inadequate physical activity contributed to poor health outcomes. She urged Nigerian women, especially older ones, to incorporate regular exercise into their daily routines, highlighting its importance for maintaining health and overall wellbeing.
Princess Azura expressed concerns about the dietary habits of many Nigerians, noting that many women, particularly older ones, were not accustomed to sports. She stressed the importance of joining this initiative to lead health
ier lives. Azura encouraged NCWS state presidents to replicate the exercise during their meetings and extend the initiative to local government areas and ward levels, promoting a culture of physical activity across the country.
Furthermore, Azura mentioned that the council would continue discussions on peace, security, and democracy, emphasizing the significance of security for peaceful coexistence, especially as the country approaches elections.
Dr Bolatito Babalola-Alabi, the National Secretary of NCWS, shared her personal experience from the exercise, stating it made her feel ‘light and happy’ and improved her wellbeing. She emphasized the need for activities that help women relax and maintain their physical and mental health.
Mrs Selena Ali, President of the NCWS Plateau Branch, echoed similar sentiments, stating the exercise made her feel healthier and that it would be incorporated into the branch’s meetings. She emphasized the importance of enabling more women to participate and enjoy the benefits of
physical activity.
Princess Ada Amam, an affiliate member, also highlighted the benefits of the exercise for women and pledged to replicate the initiative among members and affiliated groups. She stressed the importance of combining regular exercise with healthy eating, particularly for women at different life stages.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the exercise brought together NCWS members and affiliates to encourage women to integrate physical activity and healthy living into their daily routines.
