Abuja: The South-East chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has declared its ambition to secure one million votes for the party’s presidential ticket in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mike Nwosu, Chairman of the FCT South-East NDC, announced this target during a solidarity visit to Mr. Teddy Obey, the NDC National Vice Chairman for the South-East. Nwosu highlighted the visit as a gesture of gratitude towards the party’s national leadership for selecting a presidential candidate from the South-East region. He emphasized the region’s duty to mobilize support, ensuring that the party’s candidates achieve victory in the elections.
Nwosu underscored the plan to unify one million people in Abuja, rallying all Igbos in the region under the NDC banner. He detailed the group’s strategy of intensive mobilisation efforts ahead of the campaigns, aiming to secure widespread support for the party’s presidential ticket across
the FCT. The selection of Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate was described as a pivotal move toward enhancing political representation for the South-East.
He noted the significance of the NDC’s backing of a candidate from the region as a crucial opportunity for political inclusion, which the South-East has long advocated for. Mr. VinMartin Ilo, Chief Technical Adviser to NDC National Leader Sen. Seriake Dickson, echoed this sentiment, stressing the South-East’s vital role in persuading Nigerians of the benefits of an Igbo presidency.
Ilo affirmed the NDC’s commitment to collaborating with the South-East to garner support for Obi and the party’s presidential ticket. He emphasized the importance of leading the charge and reassuring other Nigerians of the positive changes an Igbo presidency could bring for the entire nation.
