NDLEA seizes 396 bags of cannabis sativa in Ilorin

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara state command, has seized 396 bags of cannabis sativa at a warehouse in Ilorin the state capital.

The state commandant of the Agency, Commander Apeh Reuben who disclosed this on Wednesday at a news conference, held at the NDLEA office, Ilorin, said the warehouse was located at Osere, along Asa Dam Area.

According to him, the Agency was tipped off of the warehouse where the cannabis popularly known as Indian hemp was stockpiled.

He added that the agencies were dispatched to investigate the matter immediately which led to the discovery of the warehouse and seizure of the large quantity of the cannabis.

Commander Reuben explained that no arrest has been made so far, but the officers of the Agency are making efforts to arrest the culprit, especially the owner of the whorehouse.

The NDLEA state commandant noted that if the cannabis gets to the public domain, it would destabilize the state’s economy, lives and cause adverse effect on the youths and family and lead to insecurity.

Commander Reuben appealed to the media to complement efforts of the agency by educating, sensitising and informing members of the public on the dangers involved in the illicit drugs.

He disclosed that the Agency’s undercover agents are currently trailing the culprit and once investigation is completed and arrest made, they would be arraigned to the court, while court order would also be sought for the destruction of the cannabis.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on security and intelligence gathering, Doctor Abdusalam Suleiman, described the seizure of the cannabis sativa as a major breakthrough by the Agency as a result of its uncompromising and proactive ways of controlling illicit drugs in the state.

Doctor Suleiman called for collaborative efforts to ensure drugs-free society, and appealed to the public to continue to give relevant security agencies adequate and timely information about their communities.

The Senior Special Assistant noted that the state government is inspired by the achievements of the Agency, Especially on the seizure of the cannabis satisver which he said promotes crimes, such as kidnapping rape and armed robbery in the society.
