NEPAD advocates youth empowerment to curtail insecurity

Skills development has been identified as a veritable tool in checking insecurity and youth restiveness in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer, New Partnership for Africa Development NEPAD, Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu, who made this assertion in Abuja, also stressed that, the energy and resources of youths must be re-directed to saleable skills, if the nation must achieve the peace it deserves.

The NEPAD Nigeria Chief Executive Officer emphasised that, greater attention must be given to the development of youth’s personal skills in different vocations to enable the Government curb the twin issues of youth restiveness and insecurity across the country.

Princess Akobundu, while making a strong case for constant flow of allowances for trainees in the vocational centres added that ”the cost of insecurity and youth restiveness far outweighs whatever Government would use as allowances for the trainees who at graduation, would not only acquire the skills and confidence to be on their own, move away from streets and even become employers of labour themselves”.

She however advocated for closer communication between leaders and the youths in the country which she said, was in order to foist on the youths a sense of mentorship.
