Abuja:The Local Organising Committee of the Nigerian-German Investment and Cultural Expo (NGICE 2026) has announced that the event will act as a campaign to mobilize the Nigerian diaspora in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sir Mike Okiro, Chairman of the LOC and a retired Inspector-General of Police, shared this plan during a visit to Dr. Warrens Augusta, the Permanent Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Okiro emphasized the importance of leveraging the significant Nigerian population in Germany for national development and diaspora engagement.
Okiro expressed confidence in successfully hosting the expo, acknowledging the supportive role of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He highlighted the commitment of Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who agreed to lead the Federal Government delegation to the event in Berlin, Germany, thereby enhancing its significance and fostering economic collaboration between Nigerians and German investors.
Amb. Chielo Ojirika, Coordinator of NGICE 2026 and Nigerian Cultural Ambassador to Germany, noted that the visit was a briefing on preparations for the expo, designed to boost Nigeria’s international image by showcasing economic opportunities, cultural heritage, and entrepreneurial capacity. Ojirika, also known as Chiboy D’ Black Courage, mentioned that the initiative aims to attract more Foreign Direct Investment to Nigeria and align with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The expo is also intended to engage Nigerians in Germany, strengthening their involvement in national development, and maintaining strong connections with Nigeria. As part of the activities, the Sustain Our Unity Project (SOUP Summit 2026) is planned to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, promoting national unity and stability.
The NGICE team has engaged with several officials, including Sen. George Akume, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and German Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Annette Gunter, to ensure the success of the expo.
