Abuja:The Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to bolstering industrial cooperation with Germany, focusing on steel development, technology transfer, mineral processing, and equipment manufacturing. This announcement was made by the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Audu, during a meeting with a delegation of German Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the visit, led by Dr. Chux Onaa, Head of VDMA-German OEMs, aimed to fortify the collaboration between Nigeria and Germany in the steel sector. The goal is to transform previous engagements into tangible industrial collaboration and investment.
Prince Audu highlighted past discussions at the 9th German-African Economic Forum in Dortmund, Germany, where both countries explored cooperation in various areas, including steel development and technology transfer. The minister noted the German delegation’s presence in Nigeria as evidence of growing interest and the potential for sustainable partnerships beneficial to both nations.
Nigeria’s rich mineral resources and expanding market offer promising opportunities for German industries to invest in the steel and metallurgical sectors. The Federal Government is committed to fostering a competitive, technology-driven, and sustainable steel industry to support infrastructure, manufacturing, job creation, and economic diversification.
Potential areas for collaboration include modern technology deployment, equipment manufacturing, and local value-chain development. The Ministry of Steel Development is keen on involving German OEMs in ongoing and new projects within Nigeria’s steel sector.
Ambassador Nura Rimi, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, stated that the visit aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes revitalizing the steel sector. The delegation’s visit is expected to consolidate collaboration and investment opportunities in Nigeria’s steel industry.
