Nigeria approves N1.65billion for Data Link Communication

The Federal Executive Council has approved N1.65billion contract for the procurement and installation of the 2nd Phase of Controller/Pilot Data Link Communication for the Kano Flight Information Region.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, stated this while briefing State House correspondents after Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sirika said the Controller/Pilot Data Link Communication basically would improve communication by digital means between the pilot and the controller.

He also said it would improve efficiency and make decision making faster, as well as make departures and arrival seamless and also faster as against the usual analogue.

According to him, it would improve on the clearance of aircraft for landing as against the analogue system, which makes aircraft still 20miles out, waiting for other aircraft to land before it is cleared.

This will bridge that and improve upon efficiency, he stated.

The aviation minister said the Kano Flight Information Region comprises the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport , Lagos.

He said the agency that is responsible for the project is the National Airspace Management Agency, NAMA.
