Nigeria: Group Urges Boko Haram to Embrace Peace

A group by the name; Arewa Ambassadors Congress of Nigeria (AACN), has called on members of the dreaded Boka Haram group to halt its unending violence in the northeastern part of the country and embrace peace.

The AACN is a platform for the enhancement of peace and unity amongst diverse ethnic nationalities within northern Nigeria with 19 ambassadors from each of the 19 northern states.

The call, which was contained in a communique issued to newsmen by the Public Relation officer of the forum, Eche Amos, after a 3-day convention of the group, stated that there can be no meaningful development in the north and the country at large, if the incessant violence is not brought to an end.

According to the communique, the group described the killing of innocent citizens and wanton destruction of properties as absurd and condemnable. It also called on the teeming northern youths to key into the agricultural programs of the present administration as an alternative to over dependence on petroleum products.

The group called on the federal government to hasten the reawakening of the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi state and Arewa Textiles in Kaduna state, so as to address the rising spate of unemployment in the region.

The communique also called on the government to address the incessant farmers/herdsmen clashes in order to promote peace and boost agricultural development in the region.
