Nigeria provides guideline to avert industrial disasters

The Nigerian government is working with relevant stakeholders to provide National Guidelines to avert Industrial Disasters such as pipeline explosions in the country.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, said her Ministry would carry out pipeline safety sensitisation programmes in communities through which pipelines pass.

She stated this while commiserating with the Lagos State Government, families of the deceased and all others affected as well as organisations that have suffered losses as a result of the explosion.

While commending the rapid response by the emergency services in Lagos, the Minister said that when disaster strikes, all national, sub-national and private assets should be utilized to ensure an effective, quick and coordinated response to such emergencies.

Relevant authorities are working to ascertain the number of lives lost, in the pipeline explosion on Sunday in Abule Ado in Amuwa Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, South West Nigeria, on Sunday morning.
