Abuja: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building strategic global partnerships aimed at countering negative narratives that threaten to damage Nigeria’s reputation. Idris articulated this position during the UK Edition of the Renewed Hope Global Dialogue, themed ‘Strengthening Global Partnerships for Economic Renewal and National Rebranding under the Renewed Hope Administration’.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister emphasized the centrality of partnerships and collaboration in Nigeria’s efforts to rebrand and reposition itself on the world stage. He highlighted the challenges posed by disinformation campaigns that falsely allege state-sponsored religious attacks and discrimination in Nigeria. He underscored the importance of engaging international allies who are familiar with Nigeria’s complexities to help project an accurate and credible image of the country.
Idris further stated that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation is deeply involved in national rebranding efforts, collaborating with strategic partners to present Nigeria positively. He revealed the launch of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG) in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), aimed at maximizing national pride and promoting a positive global reputation.
The minister announced that Nigeria would commemorate Nigeria Reputation Day annually on October 15 to emphasize the significance of national reputation. Additionally, Nigeria is set to host the 2026 African Public Relations Association (APRA) Conference and the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) in Abuja, marking a significant milestone as the first African country to host both events in the same year.
Highlighting diplomatic and economic achievements, Idris noted President Bola Tinubu’s foreign policy vision, anchored on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora, which is yielding tangible results. Nigeria’s admission as a BRICS partner and recent leadership roles in global energy forums are testament to these efforts. The minister also celebrated Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List, crediting President Tinubu’s reforms in strengthening anti-money laundering frameworks.
Domestically, Idris outlined significant reforms such as a unified exchange rate regime, a national student loans program, a new national minimum wage, and several other initiatives aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s economic growth. He expressed optimism that Nigeria, under President Tinubu’s leadership, is reclaiming its standing both domestically and internationally, with continued efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships to sustain progress.
